I’m Adong, the maker behind Held Stone Jewelry. I make handmade natural stone jewelry for everyday wear, personal meaning, thoughtful gifting, and the small moments when you want to keep something close.
I Did Not Begin With a Big Plan
I did not begin Held Stone with a perfect business plan or a finished idea of what it would become.
I began with materials on a worktable: a length of cord, a stone I wanted to understand better, a knot that needed to be redone, and the simple wish to make something honest with my own hands.
At first, I was only trying to learn. I wanted to understand how a piece could feel balanced, how color could work quietly together, and how something small could become worth wearing or giving to another person.
Over time, the work became more than a way to make jewelry. It became a way to build a rhythm for myself.
Handwork Gave Me Somewhere to Return To
I have lived with a disability since childhood. For a long time, that made me doubt what kind of work I could do and whether I could create a steady life of my own.
Handwork did not remove every difficulty. It did not make the future suddenly simple. But it gave me somewhere to return to.
When I sit down to make a piece, there is always something concrete in front of me. I can choose a stone. I can test a color. I can undo a knot and make it again. I can finish one small part and move to the next.
That kind of work changed how I saw myself. It reminded me that I could learn, make, improve, and create something real. Slowly, I began to build more confidence through the work itself.
The Kind of Luck I Believe In
The kind of luck I believe in is not something a stone can promise.
For me, it is the kind that appears after you keep practicing, keep showing up, and keep trying again when a piece does not work the first time.
Sometimes luck looks like a new skill. Sometimes it looks like a message from someone who connected with something I made. Sometimes it is simply the feeling of finishing a piece after a difficult day.
That is the kind of luck handwork has brought into my life: not a guarantee, but a reason to keep moving.
Why I Made Held Stone
I made Held Stone because I wanted to create pieces that could feel personal without needing to say too much.
A bracelet can become part of a morning routine. A small charm can stay on a bag or keyring. A handmade gift can mark a birthday, a new chapter, a thank-you, or a moment when you want someone to know that you were thinking of them.
I do not believe jewelry can promise a perfect life. But I do believe a meaningful object can hold a memory, mark a moment, or remind someone of a promise they made to themselves.
That is what I hope a Held Stone piece can be: something made carefully, chosen slowly, and carried in your own way.
Natural Materials. Personal Meaning.
I work with natural stone, waxed cord, and, where stated, other real materials such as freshwater pearls.
Natural materials are never completely identical. One stone may have a deeper color. Another may catch light differently. A small line, inclusion, texture, or change in translucency may make one piece different from the next.
I do not try to make every piece factory-identical.
Instead, I try to let the material keep some of its own character. The differences in stone, cord, knots, and arrangement are part of the making process. They are part of what makes a handmade piece feel personal.
What I Hope Held Stone Can Become
Right now, Held Stone is built piece by piece, from a small worktable and a growing collection of materials, ideas, and lessons.
In the future, I hope it can become more than one maker working alone. I hope it can grow into a small handmade team that creates real, flexible work opportunities for people who may need a different path into work, skill-building, and confidence.
That is a hope for the future, not something I claim to have already built. For now, I am focused on doing the work in front of me well: making honest pieces, learning steadily, and treating every order with care.
